Enhanced Preschool Program

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY AND LEARNING GOALS
The Enhanced Preschool Program at Little People is guided by three key pillars: Knowledge – Skills – Attitude. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

Alongside the HighScope Integrated Curriculum, Little People offers an Enhanced Preschool Program to provide diverse educational options for families. This program follows the Vietnamese National Early Childhood Education Framework, enriched with innovative learning components in Math, Science, and Art from the HighScope STEAM curriculum. National Preschool Curriculum Content
1. For Nursery (Under 36 Months)
  • The curriculum focuses on four key areas of development: Physical Development, Language, Cognitive Skills, and Social-Emotional Growth.
  • Physical development includes motor skills, respiration, finger dexterity, and hand strength exercises, incorporating gross motor and fine motor activities through classroom lessons and outdoor play.
  • Children engage in weekly sensory exercises, such as object identification, sound recognition, imitation activities, hand-washing, and assembling objects.
  • Cognitive development activities include recognizing and differentiating objects, toys, animals, and plants, stimulating curiosity and interest in the surrounding world.
  • Teachers balance structured learning and play-based exploration, while also ensuring proper nutrition, sleep, and hygiene to establish healthy routines and create a warm, enjoyable school experience.
  • The “Learn to Speak with Your Child” program supports speech development for children aged 3 and helps those with delayed speech development catch up with their peers.
2. For Kindergarten (Ages 3 and Above)

The curriculum focuses on five areas of development: Cognition, Language, Aesthetic Appreciation, Physical Development, and Social-Emotional Skills.Cognitive and languageskills are the primary focus, with teachers helping children develop observation, comparison, classification, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities. Soft skills and communication skills are further developed through outdoor activities, field trips, and hands-on science experiments.

The STEM learning model is integrated into Character Development and Science Projects, helping children connect classroom lessons with real-life applications. The next important goal of the main curriculum is to systematically and strategically prepare children for Grade 1 through a well-structured School Readiness Program:

  • Preschool (Chồi, age 4): Strengthens language skills, fine motor control, and hand development through activities like tracing and coloring.
  • Kindergarten (Lá, age 5): Introduces letters, letter formation, and mathematical reasoning, ensuring children are fully prepared for Grade One.
Additional Learning Enrichment
In addition to the Vietnamese National Preschool Curriculum, children receive enhanced instruction in three key subjects from the HighScope Preschool Program: Creative Arts, Mathematics, and Science & Technology.

Creative Arts (Creative Art):

Children are given full creative freedom to express their ideas through diverse experiences with materials, colors, and artistic tools. This approach nurtures a love for art, an appreciation for beauty, and the ability to create in their unique way.

Science (Science):

Through scientific exploration, children gradually develop observational thinking, reasoning skills, and the ability to describe phenomena. Hands-on experiments allow them to learn through trial and error, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The HighScope Science Teaching Method emphasizes independent and collaborative learning, encouraging a proactive and inquisitive mindset that serves as a foundation for future academic success.

Mathematics (Math):

Children engage in fun and practical math activities, built upon previously learned concepts. With HighScope, math is not limited to counting and shape recognition; instead, it is woven into everyday life, from cooking recipes to fashion design, architecture, and science. Enhanced ESL Program
Enhanced Preschool English Program at Little People

The Enhanced Preschool English Program at Little People is specially designed to meet the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training’s English exposure requirements for preschoolers, while also incorporating an extended learning schedule with an American-standard curriculum. This program offers a harmonious blend of modern and traditional teaching methods, ensuring that young learners acquire English effectively and naturally.

Diverse Teaching Staff: The program features a multicultural learning environment, with both Vietnamese and native English-speaking teachers alternating in instruction. This approach helps children become familiar with different teaching styles, enhancing their language abilities, communication skills, confidence, and adaptability to an international setting.

Vocabulary Reflex-Based Learning: The curriculum emphasizes natural language absorption, helping children acquire English effortlessly. Lessons are integrated with engaging and lively songs, encouraging participation and making vocabulary retention easier. Additionally, the program includes interactive practice activities and creative games, fostering both language development and social skills.

Standardized Learning Outcomes: The program ensures that children meet the English exposure framework set by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, providing them with a strong English foundation for primary school.

Class Schedule:

  • Nursery (30+ months old): 1 session per week with a Vietnamese teacher.
  • Preschool & Kindergarten (Mầm & Chồi): 2 sessions per week with a Vietnamese teacher + 1 session with a native English teacher.
  • Senior Kindergarten (Lá): 2 sessions per week with a Vietnamese teacher + 2 sessions with a native English teacher.
Supporting Subjects
Supporting subjects play a vital role in completing a well-rounded early education. While the Life Skills Program equips children with essential abilities for self-care and handling real-life situations, Art Programs nurture creativity and help shape children’s aesthetic sense from an early age. These subjects are integrated throughout most school years, while the Pre-Primary Program is specifically designed for Senior Kindergarten students (Lá) to help them transition smoothly into primary school. English Training Program

Designed according to the curriculum for teaching English as a second language, the Integrated English Training Program follows a bilingual learning approach. It begins with daily English exposure for 2-year-olds (25-36 months). Early exposure during the language acquisition phase allows children to develop English naturally alongside their native language, accelerating their language absorption during the preschool years.

Upon entering the Preschool stage (ages 3-5), children participate in 30-45 minute daily ESL lessons tailored to their age group. The preschool ESL program within the Integrated Curriculum is designed using a comprehensive learning approach, fostering academic skills and creative thinking, and effectively preparing children for higher levels in primary school. These classes are taught by experienced native English-speaking teachers.

CLIL Lessons (Content and Language Integrated Learning)

Early Math and Early Literacy

The curriculum offers a unique blend of early math and literacy development, helping children reinforce language knowledge while simultaneously improving their math awareness and early reading-writing skills.

Letter Recognition and Phonics
Phonics is emphasized across all levels, teaching children to recognize phonetic sounds in communication, including initial and final sounds. They also learn to identify the English alphabet and understand its differences from the Vietnamese alphabet. Early phonics training significantly enhances listening and speaking skills, supporting academic language development later on.
Clear Assessment and Progress Tracking
With systematic progress tracking, including unit assessments, mid-term, and final evaluations, teachers and parents can monitor children’s development, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that each child progresses at their own pace
Tech-Enhanced Learning Tools
The program integrates educational software and interactive online games to make English learning engaging and dynamic. These tools help connect classroom lessons with home review activities, allowing parents to be part of their child’s language-learning journey.

Educators in the HighScope preschool program are required to shift from a “Directive” (Instructive/Guiding) teaching style to a “Supportive” teaching approach, encouraging children to take an active role in their learning experiences.

Thật tuyệt vời các Mẹ Ơi! Ban đầu Ba bé ấn tượng đầu tiên là cơ sơ vật chất, đồ dùng học tập rất là mới, sạch sẽ và chất lượng thể hiện được sự đầu tư rất là tâm huyết của các thầy cô và ban giám hiệu nhà trường, cuối cùng ''chốt". Kêu mình đăng ký cho bé học. Sau một thời gian đi học ... thôi trời ạ !!!, Mình nhận thấy con có sự tiến bộ rõ rệt về nền nếp, kỹ năng, nhận thức và khi đi học về con rất là vui vẻ. Thấy rằng ở đây cô giáo rất nhẹ nhàng quan tâm đến con, mỗi lần mình đưa đón con các cán bộ quản lý, cô hiệu trưởng, cả chú bảo vệ của nhà trường đều cởi mở và thân thiện, còn môi trường học với không gian thoáng mát, luôn tràn ngập ánh sáng và không khí trong lành. Có cả camera, nhưng mình không quá đặt nặng bởi "camera" quan trọng chính là thái độ của con khi đi học về.

Về phần chương trình học tập, tất nhiên mình không nắm chi tiết rõ nhưng thấy xây dựng kế hoạch giảng dạy phù hợp một cách bài bản, thông qua các hoạt động thực tiễn, học mà chơi, chơi mà học rất thú vị giúp bé nhà mình tiếp thu kiến thức dễ dàng hơn, phát triễn toàn diện. Hơn nữa phần lớn các giáo viên ở đây có trình độ chuyên môn cao, có kinh nghiệm giảng dạy và yêu trẻ. Nói chung là OK, 10 điểm không có nhưng.

Thêm vào đó các mẹ có thể hoàn toàn yên tâm với chế độ chất lượng dinh dưỡng, thực đơn mình thấy thường xuyên thay đổi để bé luôn cảm thấy ngon miệng, đồng hành theo đó là có cả sự giúp đỡ của cô y tá với sự chân thành, tận tâm và tình yêu thương hết mình dành cho các bé.

Tính đến thời điểm này có thể nói Little People không làm mình thất vọng. Con mình đã được chăm sóc, dậy dỗ rất chu đáo.

The HighScope Educational Research Foundation

Introduction to HighScope
The HighScope Educational Research Foundation traces its roots back to the Perry Preschool Project, founded in 1962 by psychologist David Weikart in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Perry Preschool Project, involving 123 children in Ypsilanti, completely transformed perceptions about the importance of early childhood education in Michigan at that time. In 1970, Dr. David Weikart formally established The HighScope Educational Research Foundation to continue researching the impact of high-quality early childhood education on the long-term success of children who received early interventions. The research results showed that children who were educated using the “Active Learning” approach from the HighScope program achieved higher outcomes compared to those who did not attend preschool, particularly in several criteria as follows:

The HighScope approach is an educational method that emphasizes “Active Learning” and is implemented through a series of teaching strategies and child-centered models built upon research in child psychology and practical assessment tools. This support makes the “Active Learning” approach more practical and accessible to teachers, contributing to the success of the HighScope program, as evidenced by the following achievements:
Active Learning Approach
Since its inception in 1970 in the United States, the HighScope Preschool program, with its Active Learning approach developed by psychologist David Weikart, has been recognized as a program that fosters creativity and initiative in learners.
The “Active Learning” approach is implemented through four key elements:

Scientific Child Assessment Tools

HighScope assesses children based on their individual development, using the COR Advantage assessment tool developed and standardized by the HighScope organization in the United States. By observing children’s daily behaviors, language, and interactions, teachers gain an accurate understanding of each child’s developmental level in each educational area, allowing them to identify strengths to be developed and areas that require in-depth support.

Child-Centered Interactions

The relationship between children and adults is fundamental to creating an active learning environment. Adults respect children as partners, letting go of the urge to control and guide, allowing children to take ownership of their learning and exploration. HighScope teachers share control, observe, listen attentively to children’s intentions, and identify each child’s unique abilities and developmental levels to provide appropriate, individualized support. In the HighScope educational environment, children are at the center of designing their learning experiences, while teachers support them in developing their strengths, learning to improve their weaknesses willingly and positively, and becoming a better version of themselves each day.

Stimulating Learning Environments

HighScope classrooms are divided into different play areas to support children in carrying out their “play-to-learn” plans. With a variety of materials, scientifically categorized and labeled, children are proactive in searching, using, and cleaning up. The HighScope learning environment does not require expensive teaching aids but encourages the use of everyday materials, as HighScope believes that children interact with materials to learn how to use them, and then creatively combine open-ended materials to solve problems, not just for entertainment. The learning environment also plays a crucial role in simulating a miniature society, where each member interacts with materials and the classroom space to satisfy their imagination, stimulate creativity, and learn to control their emotions and resolve problems that arise during play.

Daily Routines that Meet Developmental Needs

HighScope classrooms offer a variety of activities, from small group interactions and one-on-one interactions to whole-class activities, promoting a balanced development of both individual and social skills. The “PLAN-DO-REVIEW” cycle emphasizes the importance of children taking the initiative to plan their play and controlling the entire process with purposeful teacher support. This copyrighted learning process from the HighScope Educational Research Foundation helps develop independent thinking, qualities, and accelerates brain development in preschool children.

These four essential elements are represented as a wheel, a complete cycle (Wheel of Learning), demonstrating a close and scientific connection between the components that make up the Active Learning approach. Starting from the first and most important element, the strategy of interacting with and working with children, combined with a stimulating learning environment and a daily routine that meets children’s psychological needs, teachers implement educational content in various developmental areas for each preschool or kindergarten age group to support children in reaching age-appropriate developmental milestones. The final piece, the COR Advantage assessment tool, is a powerful tool that enables teachers to identify the developmental level of each individual and plan support accordingly, returning to adjust the other three components until children reach a higher level of development. In this way, the learning wheel turns, creating a strong and indispensable combination in the implementation of the HighScope educational program, with Active Learning at its core.

The Philosophy Behind Little People Kindergarten

Recent research in education and psychology has underscored the critical role of early childhood education in shaping a child’s lifelong development. At Little People, we believe that kindergarten should lay the foundation for a child’s character, nurturing individuals who live with integrity, civility, and positive values, both academically and in everyday life.
